In 2017/18 I worked as a 'Science Explainer' at Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre. In this role I gave public tours of the Lovell telescope explaining the history of the site and the scientific research that goes on. I also ran mini 'experiments' and activities for children and was on hand in exhibitions to answer questions.

University of Manchester Physics Outreach (UMPO)

During my undergraduate degree I volunteered with the University of Manchester Physics Outreach (UMPO) group. This involved delivering physics workshops in local schools and scout groups, and doing 'science busking'  at events such as the Manchester Science Festival and the Bluedot Festival.

From 2017-2018 I took on the role of Schools' Liaison Officer as part of the UMPO committee. Here I managed communication between local schools and UMPO's student volunteers.

Women in Science and Engineering

During my time on the UMPO committee, I developed my own workshop in collaboration with the university's WISE (Women in Science and Engineering) society. The workshop was aimed at encouraging young women to study STEM subjects by dispelling common misconceptions, introducing female role models, talking openly about issues such as imposter syndrome and working on self-confidence. I trained over 20 female STEM undergraduates in how to deliver this workshop.

Ongoing activities: get in touch

I continue to deliver my Women in Science workshop at schools locally and around the UK. I also give talks and attend panel sessions discussing my research and career. For example, I have attended 'Aspire to Be' and 'Role Model' days at primary schools, career events at secondary schools, and delivered talks to graduating A-level students.
